Abstract

With the opening of our country we trade more and more with foreign countries. English slogans are widely used in public places in our daily life. To some extent they often relate with the image of a city even a country. This article aims to discuss the basic principles of translating slogans also points out some general defects in the translation of slogans from Chinese into English and the reasons for these. In addition it puts forward some translating methods to improve the Chinese-English translation of slogans in practice. To promote the quality of translating slogans is a good method to propagandize our Chinese culture to western country people. Good translation of slogans can not only provide the foreigners convenience but also give the people who interest in English a good opportunity to learn English. While some English translations are incorrect and unstandardized. This will make foreign readers feel hard to understand them even ignorant of them say nothing of any instructional significance.
