Abstract

Cross-cultural communication is no strange to human history. From the nomadic tribes in the infancy of human civilization to business travelers and missionaries of modern time, this process has been going on for many centuries. Translation as a necessary tool helps people understand one another. From the moment cross-cultural communication exists, translation practice has close relationship with culture. Culture speeds the development of translation. And translation helps culture diffuse. With the age of globalization coming, communication across cultures happens more and more frequently. This is a challenge for translators. Because there are many discrepancies between English culture and Chinese culture, it is hard to translate idiomatic English into Chinese that can be accepted by most Chinese readers. Also, how to let average English readers understand idiomatic Chinese is not easy. How to overcome the barriers caused by culture is a big problem that translators ......




摘 要

對(duì)于整個(gè)人類歷史的長(zhǎng)河而言，跨文化交流活動(dòng)并不陌生。從人類文明幼年時(shí)的游牧部落到現(xiàn)代的商業(yè)游客和傳教士，幾世紀(jì)來(lái)，跨文化交流活動(dòng)的腳步一直沒(méi)有停滯過(guò)。翻譯作為一種不可缺少的工具幫助人們彼此理解對(duì)方。自跨文化交流活動(dòng)有始以來(lái)，翻譯實(shí)踐就與文化產(chǎn)生了不可分割聯(lián)系。文化加速了翻譯的發(fā)展。而翻譯又促進(jìn)了文化的傳播。文化與翻譯的發(fā)展相得愈彰。隨著全球一體化時(shí)代的到來(lái)，地域不再局限人們的交流空間，跨文化交流愈加頻繁。頻繁的跨文化交流加速了文化碰撞的呈現(xiàn)。翻譯中出現(xiàn)的文化因素也越來(lái)越多。這對(duì)于譯者來(lái)說(shuō)是個(gè)挑戰(zhàn)。因?yàn)橛⒄Z(yǔ)和漢語(yǔ)有諸多差異之處，所以很難把地道的英語(yǔ)譯成能為大多數(shù)中國(guó)讀者所接受的漢語(yǔ)。同樣，讓普通的英語(yǔ)國(guó)家的讀者通過(guò)譯文來(lái)理解地道的漢語(yǔ)也不容易。如何克服這些由文化引起的翻譯障礙是譯者需要面對(duì)的一個(gè)大問(wèn)題。本文將分析文化與翻譯實(shí)踐的關(guān)系以及文化對(duì)翻譯造成的影響。通過(guò)舉出充分的例子來(lái)分析文化對(duì)翻譯造成的影響并提出如何克服由文化引起的翻譯障礙的方法。本文目的是借助翻譯使人們能更了解文化對(duì)語(yǔ)言的影響并有效地進(jìn)行交流。
