電子計算機(jī)是一種能夠高速而精確地進(jìn)行各種數(shù)據(jù)處理的機(jī)器，這是人類生產(chǎn)和科學(xué)技術(shù)發(fā)展的產(chǎn)物，它的出現(xiàn)又有力地推動了生產(chǎn)力的發(fā)展，目前計算機(jī)已經(jīng)應(yīng)用到國民經(jīng)濟(jì)的各個領(lǐng)域，當(dāng)代社會已離不開計算機(jī)。
現(xiàn)代的計算機(jī)都是大規(guī)模集成電路計算機(jī)，具有功能強(qiáng)，結(jié)構(gòu)緊湊、系統(tǒng)可靠等特性、隨著半導(dǎo)體技術(shù)的發(fā)展，能夠在一個硅片上制作幾百萬個晶體管，于是出現(xiàn)了大規(guī)模集成電路的中央處理器—微處理器，以及大容量的半導(dǎo)體存儲器，通用或?qū)Ｓ幂斎?輸出接口電路，包含多種類型I/O的綜合外圍電路，由這些大規(guī)模集成電路組成各種類型的微型計算機(jī)。
