【Abstract】: This paper through a study of the extent to which Edna Pontellier, in Kate Chopin's The Awakening, marks a departure from the female characters of earlier nineteenth-century American novels, and show us the changing attitudes towards women's role in society.

【摘要】：凱特•肖邦的傳世之作《覺醒》被西方文評界認為是美國女權(quán)主義文學的經(jīng)典作品。本文通過對該小說中女主角埃德娜的性格分析及對19世紀其他幾個典型的美國小說女主角的比較，揭示女性自我意識的覺醒和女性反叛這一主題，同時也反映了19世紀整個社會對女性這一角色態(tài)度的改變。
