21世紀(jì)初，機(jī)械制造業(yè)發(fā)展的特點(diǎn)是現(xiàn)代化高新技術(shù)的綜合利用，其趨勢(shì)是四化：即柔性化、敏捷化、智能化和信息化。再也不是以20世紀(jì)20～40年代發(fā)展起來的機(jī)械學(xué)科自身的成就――凸輪及其它機(jī)械為基礎(chǔ)，采用專用機(jī)床、夾具、刀具、量具組成的流水式生產(chǎn)線――剛性自動(dòng)化。剛性自動(dòng)化的缺點(diǎn)是嚴(yán)重影響產(chǎn)品的更新?lián)Q代，妨礙采用高新技術(shù)，產(chǎn)品在國際市場(chǎng)上缺乏競(jìng)爭(zhēng)力。目前，我國機(jī)械制造業(yè)中，一些國營企業(yè)虧損，產(chǎn)品在國內(nèi)外市場(chǎng)上缺乏競(jìng)爭(zhēng)力，產(chǎn)品大量積壓，除與經(jīng)營管理體制有關(guān)外，與企業(yè)設(shè)備陳舊、工程技術(shù)人員知識(shí)老化有很大關(guān)系。
