決定企業(yè)獲利能力的首要因素是“產(chǎn)業(yè)吸引力”。企業(yè)在擬定競爭戰(zhàn)略時，必須要深入了解決定產(chǎn)業(yè)吸引力的競爭法則。競爭法則可以用五種競爭力來具體分析，如圖所示，這五種競爭力包括：新加入者的威脅、客戶的議價能力、替代品或服務的威脅、供貨商的議價能力及既有競爭者。
2.三大一般性戰(zhàn)略
競爭戰(zhàn)略的第二個中心問題是：企業(yè)在產(chǎn)業(yè)中的相對位置。競爭位置會決定企業(yè)的獲利能力是高出還是低于產(chǎn)業(yè)的平均水平。即使在產(chǎn)業(yè)結(jié)構(gòu)不佳，平均獲利水平差的產(chǎn)業(yè)中，競爭位置較好的企業(yè)，仍能獲得較高的投資回報。
